The roar of strength echoed through the historic city of Rome as the 2023 World Powerlifting & Benchpress Championships' unfolded on October 31st and November 1st. Among the nations that gathered for this spectacular event, WorldPowerlifting Nauru stood tall, sending a formidable team of seven, including two officials and five powerhouse athletes competing in various categories.

A total of 80 athletes from thirteen nations converged in Italy's capital to vie for glory. However, the spirit of competition was met with challenges, as seven nations and over 50 athletes faced the disappointment of being unable to participate due to visa restrictions – a reminder of the global hurdles athletes must navigate to showcase their prowess on an international stage.

The WorldPowerlifting Nauru Contingent were a force to be reckoned with. Led by the capable hands of Jason Wharton, the Team Manager/Coach, and Ms. Corazone Teabuge, Team Official, WorldPowerlifting Nauru brought a squad that left an indelible mark on the championships.

Team Achievements: Nauru – A Powerlifting Powerhouse

The Nauruan team secured a commendable position, earning the title of the 3rd Best Nation overall. Individual brilliance shone through as Dyke Daoe claimed the prestigious title of "2023 Best Male Lifter."

In the 3 Lifts Total category, the Nauru athletes showcased unparalleled strength and technique:

- Dyke Daoe: 77kg Open Gold

- Angin Gadabu: 94kg Open Gold

- Fern Cook: 105kg Gold

- Joash Teabuge: 120kg Open Gold

- Jason Wharton: 120kg Master 3 (50-54yrs) Gold

The Bench Press only category witnessed another triumphant moment for the team:

- Langer Olsson Wharton: 105kg Gold
